Can We Please Retire the Phrase “Bounce Back”?
Being a new mom myself, I feel like our entire post-partum society has us believing that we NEED and SHOULD “bounce back” to where we were before kids. Here are just a few things people have told me in the past 3 months:
“Wow you are really bouncing back!”
“Getting your body back?”
“How are you getting back to the old you”
And honestly… I think it’s time we throw these phrases straight in the trash.
Because here’s the real talk:
You are not supposed to bounce back to who you were before.
That version of you didn’t grow a human, birth a human, or survive months of feeding schedules, sleepless nights, and trying to figure out who you are as a mom.
You’re not meant to return to the old you.
You’re meant to become the next version of you.
Your Body Isn’t Broken …..It’s Healing
So many moms walk through our doors feeling like something is “wrong” with them because things feel different:
“My stomach looks different.”
“My energy is gone.”
“Everything feels harder.”
And I always want to say:
Of course it feels different.
Your body literally created life.
That deserves patience, not pressure.
Healing takes time.
Rebuilding strength takes time.
Finding a routine that works with your new life takes time.
And that’s okay.
You Don’t Need to Go Back…. You Get to Move Forward
At Iron Family Fitness, I never want moms walking in thinking they need to erase what just happened to them.
You don’t need to shrink.
You don’t need to fit an old pair of jeans by a certain date.
You don’t need to pretend you’re not exhausted and overwhelmed.
You need:
✨ Strength that helps you carry car seats, toddlers, and everything else
✨ Core and pelvic floor training that actually supports your body
✨ A schedule that doesn’t require perfection
✨ Wins that make you feel proud, not pressured
✨ A coach who gets that some days you’re crushing it and some days you’re just surviving
That’s real progress.
That’s real postpartum fitness.
And honestly? That’s what lasts.
Why “Bouncing Back” Actually Makes Everything Harder
When moms try to rush back to their pre-baby selves, a lot of things happen:
- They push too hard too fast
- They compare themselves to expectations that were never realistic
- They feel discouraged when things don’t change instantly
- And sometimes… they quit
And none of that is your fault.
It’s the pressure.
But when you give yourself permission to move forward instead?
Everything changes.
You’re more consistent.
You feel stronger.
You stop fighting your body and start working with it.
You build confidence instead of chasing old versions of yourself.
So here’s my personal opinion:
Let’s retire “bounce back,” bury it, and never speak of it again.
You’re not bouncing.
You’re growing.
You’re evolving.
You’re stepping into a new chapter of strength …. mentally, emotionally, and physically.
And if you want a community that supports this version of you, not the one you were before?
Iron Family Fitness is here.
No pressure. No unrealistic timeline.
Just real support, real coaching, and a place where you’re allowed to be human.
